Rep. Sannie Overly was first elected in 2008 to represent the 72 nd legislative district, which includes Bourbon, Bath, Nicholas and part of Fayette Counties. In 2013, Rep. Overly was elected House Majority Caucus Chair, becoming the first woman in House Leadership in the history of the commonwealth. She was also a candidate for lieutenant governor in 2015.
Rep. Overly was raised on her family’s Millersburg farm in Bourbon County. Growing up in the heart of Kentucky, she graduated from Bourbon County High School and later the University of Kentucky, where she earned a degree in civil engineering. After graduating from U.K., she worked for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and attended classes at night to earn her law degree with honors at the University of Louisville’s Brandeis School of Law.
